It is a Ukrainian Theatre of modern choreography, conceived as an author's, where the repertoire and artistic priorities are determined by productions of one choreographer; The Theatre appeals to the formation of a creative laboratory of modern dance: bold experiments, original reading of world-famous theatrical plots, updating and enriching the form and vocabulary of modern dance.
December 19, 2005
The history of «Kyiv Modern-Ballet» began on December 19, 2005, on that very day the premiere of the performance «Le forze del destino» took place. The well-known Ukrainian philanthropist Volodymyr Filippov invited Radu Poklitaru, a well-known choreographer in the ballet world, to work on the play. The premiere of a synthetic production in its form, combining classical and modern music, belcanto art and modern plastic - became a resonant event in the cultural life of Kyiv.
A continuation of the successful «pilot project» was the proposal of Volodymyr Filippov to Radu Poklitaru to create and lead the first theater of modern choreography in Ukraine. After the all-Ukrainian casting, 16 young professional dancers were enrolled in the first composition of the ballet troupe. The theater opened with the premiere of a ballet for two series of «Carmen.TV» to the music of Georges Bizet (premiere on October 25, 2006, Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater). The performance received the most prestigious theatrical award «Kyiv Pectoral-2006» in two categories «The best performance of the year» and «The best work of the choreographer».
From 2009 to 2017
The theatre was a part of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Youth.
From December 27, 2017
«Kyiv Modern-Ballet» functions as a separate unit, the full name Communal institution «Theatrical and entertainment institution of culture Academic Theatre «Kyiv Modern-Ballet».
The Theatre consists of 23 artists.
During the period of existence of the Theatre «Kiev Modern-Ballet» - 16 single-act and 5 full-length ballets were created. The Theatre received 5 «Kyiv Pectoral» awards for the best performances of the year.
