William Shakespeare's sonnets and «Romeo and Juliet» served as the ballet literary base and the source of my inspiration. Applying the stage technique of «theatre within theatre», the dancers of the «KYIV MODERN-BALLET» Theatre tell the story of their peers - the young actors who decided to perform the play of the lovers of Verona. They cease to be, gradually, just ordinary performers of their parts, actually finding themselves in the epicenter of Shakespeare's characters passions
The ballet «The Verona Myth: Shakexperiments» interlaces the contemporary world and the world of the theatrical stage overwhelmed with Shakespearean passions. From the very first carefree movements and mise-en-scènes will the sophisticated spectator feel the impending tragedy of the finale.
The set designer Andrey Zlobin and the costume designer Anna Ipatyeva have created a fantastic, complex and incredibly attractive space, in which real people co-exist with the actors-masks of the old Renaissance theatre.
Premiered on the stage on January 25, 2007
